Dear RASA families and community,

I am writing to you today to address a matter that has arisen regarding my attire at this morning’s drop off at RASA. It has come to my attention that what I wore while I was outside greeting students and parents, like I do each day, was in an attempt to impersonate ICE officials. This could not be farther from the truth. I take pride in greeting families and students each day to make each person feel welcomed and ensure they move in and out of the building safely. My attire was solely in the spirit of staying warm on a frigid day to meet and greet students and families.

Again, I state, my choice of clothing was strictly for warmth. Furthermore, I have not and never will take any measure to provoke or simulate an intimidating presence for any of our students, families or community members. I am concerned at the notion that my keeping warm would be construed as anything more than that. I am acutely aware of the nation’s happenings and circumstances associated with the concerns of my community and situations associated thereto, and to know that a simple attempt to stay warm caused fear, anxiety or trauma for our students and families deeply saddens me.

To be clear, it is my goal for our school to be a place where any and all feel welcome and respected, in addition to being able to breathe a sigh of relief, not a place where you feel a sense of panic. It was never my intent to cause distress, and I am truly apologetic if this was the impact this had on our school, our immediate community or beyond.

I want to reiterate our unwavering commitment to the RASA community and beyond:

Our school is a Safe Haven! We do not allow federal immigration officials onto our campus without following the strictest legal and district protocols.

Every student and family belongs here. Regardless of background or status, you and your child are safe, loved and protected within these walls.

I value the trust I have been given as the Principal of RASA, and I will continue to be mindful and respectful of the feelings and wishes of the RASA community and beyond.

If you or your child would like to talk more about this, or if you need additional support from our counseling team, please reach out to me directly or visit our front office. As always, I, along with the RASA team, are here for you.

Thank you for your understanding and grace, as well as being a part of our RASA family.

With sincerity and respect,

Dr. Anthony McWright

Dear RASA Families,

We want to inform you about the lockdown that occurred at our school today at 10:15am. The situation was the result of a glitch in our system and there was no actual threat to our students or staff.

As a precaution, the Denver Police Department responded immediately and thoroughly cleared the building. They confirmed that there was no danger present, and the school was safe to resume normal operations.

The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority, and we appreciate your understanding and support as we addressed this situation.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our front office.

Thank you,

RASA Administration

At RASA, we believe in the power of creativity to deepen learning. From sensory exploration to emotional expression, our youngest learners proved just how transformative the arts can be in building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

“The arts enhance the process of learning. The systems they nourish, which include our sensory, attention, cognitive, emotional, and motor capabilities are, in fact, the driving force is behind all other learning.” -Eric Jensen
